Mikey Musumeci signs up for the 2020 Pan Ams in the Heavyweight category

After his heroics at the 2020 Euro’s, Mikey Musumeci briefly mentioned that he was considering competing in the heavyweight brackets in future competitions. Today he revealed on Instagram that he has signed up for the 2020 Pan Ams competition in the heavyweight category.

The Caio Terra black belt has typically competes at rooster and light featherweight around the 62KG mark. Here he has won the likes of Worlds, Euro’s and Pan Ams at this weight. However, competing against significantly heavier opponents would be something completely different.

If Musumeci was to compete and somehow win, it would surely cement him as one of the greatest BJJ players to have ever competed. A feat made even more interesting when he still studies for his college degree alongside training BJJ. Musumeci famously wowed in this years 2020 Euro’s where he beat Seif Houmine in the Absolutes category, an ultra heavyweight who was close to double Musumeci’s weight at the time. This followed a close defeat to Mahamed Aly who narrowly won by an advantage – so perhaps Mucumeci could go all the way after all?
