WNO Results – Lovator Jr Vs Burns 30th April 2021

Last night saw the return of Who’s Number One which was aired live on Flograppling. The event had a 6 match main card which saw both Ruotolo brothers, 10th Planet superstar Grace Gundrum, 2 of the Danaher death squad, as well as the return of BJJ legend Rafael Lovato Jr.

Another thing to note was the variety of ages on this card. Tye Ruotolo (18) faced off against rising star William Tackett (19) where as the main even saw a 34 year old Gilbert Burns take on returning superstar Rafael Lovator Jr (37). The overall event was excellent and provided a few upsets which some people will not have seen coming.

Results:

Rida Haisam def Sloan Clymer by decision

A fairly uneventful match saw Rida Haisam execute a perfectly timed footsweep against his opponent Clymer. After this the match was largely contested from the open/butterfly guard of Clymer which ended in a stalemate.

Andrew Wiltse def David Garmo by one armed choke

Kade Ruotolo def Ethan Crelinsten by D’arce choke

Grace Gundrum def Alex Nguyen by back triangle/armbar

Nicky Ryan def PJ Barch by split decision

A very evenly contested match saw young Nicky Ryan looking for heel hook entries whilst Barch tried to pass. None were successful. Perhaps the most eventful point of the match is when Ryan almost scrambled to secure a sweep but ended up sitting back down. This is likely what scored him the narrow decision win.

Tye Ruotolo def William Tackett by decision

The most surprising result of the night was Ruotolo defeating Tackett. Not just because of the result, but more because of Ruotolos dominance. In fairness to Tackett, the young Texan took the fight on short notice after Craig Jones had to pull out of the match. Ruotolo made passing look easy (as he often does) and was able to get a full mount position on Tackett.

Gilbert Burns def Rafael Lovato Jr by decision

If the Tackett/Ruotolo match was surprising. Not many people predicted that Burns would defeat Lovato Jr. The match was fairly close early on until Burns was able to jump over the guard of Lovato Jr. After this Lovato Jr struggled to get out of side control and realised he needed to scramble with only 3 minutes remaning on the clock. A failed granby roll saw burns follow him the entire way through and end up on the back of Lovato Jr. This sealed the unlikely victory for the Miami fightsports competitor.
