ADCC competitor, Haisam Rida, recently gained attention not only for his achievements in competitions but also due to a recent incident involving a would-be thief that went viral.
Whilst training at the B-Team gym, someone attempted to steal Rida’s car. Without hesitation, Rida gave chase and effectively dealt with the situation. In a recent B-Team video, he provided details about the incident and what unfolded during the encounter. If you keep a close eye on this video, you can even see Rida explaining to the police how he executed a foot sweep on the thief. This isn’t too surprising, considering that Rida is a Judo black belt who is known for his high-level takedown game.
In a recently uploaded video, Rida gave his thoughts on what happened, and added “I was just taking a nap inside the office, and I think I might have left the car door unlocked, you know. My mistake. I footswept him, he fell to the ground, but kept trying to move, trying to escape. So, I Rear Naked Choked him from behind. The cops just told me: “Good job”, for holding him down, and that I had every right to. Whatever I would have done to him, I would have had full rights, but I didn’t. I just held him down, and handed him over to the cops.”
Once again, this is further proof of the beauty of BJJ in action. Rida could have easily beaten up the thief and would have been within his legal right to do so. However, he managed to restrain the thief without causing lasting damage. This is one of the reasons why Rida is one of the most liked people within the BJJ community.
