If you’ve trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the past few years then you may be aware of footage showing the ‘BJJ Karen’ which is a viral video. Here, an older woman competes against a teenager and loses. During this match, she tries to use dirty tactics such as borderline slaps and general rough techniques to phase the youngster.
Eventually, justice gets served when the teen taps her with a triangle armbar. However, it doesn’t end there. After the bout, the woman is clearly furious and claims that her opponent held on to the submission and hurt her arm in the process.
In an unearthed video, you can see how it went down from the perspective of the teen. It turns out that she beat her three times on the day, including one points victory in the gi, and two armbars in no gi. No wonder the Karen got so angry. Apparently, the woman also apologized after the match which is fair enough, but the girl also noted how it was one of the strangest competitions that she had ever attended.
In fairness, it’s not every day that you see something like this and it shows how sometimes age doesn’t always mean maturity. Not only this but it also shows that in the world of BJJ, technique always trumps aggression.
