Shoyoroll has recently entered into a collaboration with the IBJJF to produce their latest jiu-jitsu gi, an ultra-lightweight version designed specifically for competitions. As BJJ athletes regularly cut weight at the highest level of competition, it’s no doubt that competitors will want to get their hands on the lightest IBJJF legal gi possible. This partnership holds significant strategic importance, given the prominence of both entities within the sport. Shoyoroll has gained renown for its collection of exclusive and limited-edition gis, often priced higher than those of its competitors. Meanwhile, the IBJJF stands as the foremost organizer of jiu-jitsu tournaments.
This collaboration’s timing is impeccable, as the new gi, named the WAZAir Ultra-Lightweight edition, is set to debut at the upcoming Jiu-Jitsu Con event scheduled from August 31st to September 2nd, 2023. The event will feature a dedicated Shoyoroll x IBJJF booth, where enthusiasts can make an exclusive in-person purchase starting from September 1st at 11 am PST. Initially, buyers can select from blue or white variations. However, once the gi becomes available for online purchase at 3 pm PST, only the white option will be on offer. Notably, this limited-time opportunity coincides with the presence of over 10,000 BJJ competitors and coaches at the event.
Shoyoroll has proudly named this lightweight creation the WAZAir Ultra-Lightweight edition, emphasizing its status as their lightest offering to date. The design strongly caters to competitors, not only due to its weight but also its alignment with the new IBJJF gi standards set to take effect in 2024. These changes in uniform requirements have historically caused frustration, potentially resulting in disqualification for some participants. However, Shoyoroll’s collaboration with the IBJJF ensures that wearers of this gi will be compliant with the new standards, as the design incorporates direct input from the tournament organizers themselves.
