The 2024 International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Miami Open, held on February 3rd and 4th, witnessed a showcase of elite black belt competitors vying for top honors.
Men’s Divisions:
- Gi Competition:
- Caio Vinicius dominated the medium-heavyweight and absolute divisions, securing gold medals in both.
- The heavyweight division showcased top talent, culminating in Enderson Dias defeating Luccas Lira in the final.
- Thiago Macedo emerged victorious in the super-heavyweight division, winning his sole match and claiming the gold medal.
- No-Gi Competition:
- Lucas Brito displayed remarkable versatility, capturing the gi middleweight gold and a no-gi absolute silver medal. He also received a default no-gi division gold.
- Julian Espinosa triumphed in the no-gi featherweight division but settled for a gi bronze, where Sebastian Serpa secured the gold.
- Specialized contenders shone, with Adam Benayoun conquering the no-gi lightweight division and Nathannael Fernandes dominating the gi light-featherweight category.
Women’s Divisions:
- Gi Competition:
- Due to the limited participation in the adult black belt divisions, Larissa Dias faced Thais Teixeira twice, emerging victorious in both their super-heavyweight and absolute encounters.
- No-Gi Competition:
- No matches transpired in the adult black belt no-gi divisions.
Master’s Divisions:
- Tanner Weisgram demonstrated mastery by securing gold medals in both the gi and no-gi Master 2 super-heavyweight divisions.
Overall, the 2024 IBJJF Miami Open offered a glimpse of high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu across various weight classes and disciplines. While the women’s competition lacked the same participation level as the men’s, individual performances stood out, particularly Larissa Dias’s dominance.
