IBJJF New Orleans Open 2024 review

The 2024 International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) New Orleans Open, held February 3rd-4th, witnessed stellar displays of grappling prowess. Notable competitors and exciting matchups captivated audiences throughout the event.

Middleweight standout Jon Satava secured gold in the gi division on Day 1, showcasing his skills despite limited participation. However, Yan Paiva stole the show, claiming both the super-heavyweight and absolute gi titles. While Jose Jurema fell to Paiva in the absolute final, his super-heavyweight gi gold and no-gi default win due to a vacant division were impressive feats.

Austin Oranday emerged as a dominant force, securing double gold in both gi and no-gi medium-heavyweight divisions, defeating distinct opponents in each bracket. Featherweight David Weintraub also reached the pinnacle in the no-gi category.

The women’s black belt gi divisions saw limited participation, with Kennedy Franklin receiving default golds. However, she rose to the challenge in the no-gi absolute, defeating Lorena Balli to claim the top spot.
