It’s a sad but somewhat familiar story in recent times as yet another BJJ gym may be forced into permanent closure due to the Covid19 outbreak.
In a recent Instagram post, ADCC medalist and BJJ showman Jeff Glover stated how his Goodland Jiu Jitsu gym was struggling. Based in Goleta, California the gym has been closed due to California’s rules on Coronavirus. As a result it is difficult to pay the rent without paying customers/students. Jeff used the opportunity to welcome potential business partners to join him and help save the gym.
The post also featured a screenshot from his relative Mitchell Glover. Here, Mitchell also stated how his shop would be forced into closure as a result of the Covid19 situation.
Sadly this isn’t the first gym closure as similarly Garry Tonon had to close his gym which had moved into a new location just months before. With this in mind the question asked is, when will normality resume? It also highlights the economic costs of closure which may be long lasting throughout the BJJ community.
