It may be a tough year, but the Pan Ams 2020 did not disappoint and saw the rise in various upcoming grapplers. For instance, it’s been a great year for Ronaldo Junior who continued his dominance with gold at middleweight. Elsewhere, Gracie Barra competitor Kendall Reusing took gold at the super heavyweight category in the women’s division. Not only this but Pan Ams veteran Otavio Sousa won his fourth gold at the event in the adult division proving age is nothing but a number. Unsurprisingly, the team trophy went to ATOS which was awarded to Andre Galvao whose team of competitors took a number of medals over the course of the weekend.
Gregor Gracie also had a great weekend and took home double gold in the master’s bracket whilst other prodigies such as Giancarlo Bodoni also achieved gold in the brown belt category. The Pan Ams was the first major IBJJF competition held after the Coronavirus and proved to be a success whilst also highlighting just how entertaining and important the gi is to the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
