Lachlan Giles was recently a guest on the Gypsy Tales podcast which is based in his home country of Australia. The host asked Lachan “Is it unfortunate if a guy like that (Gordon Ryan) is doing something to grow the sport? Cause at some point he’s going to retire and if he leaves the sport bigger than when he came in, he kind of did a good thing for the sport, right?”
Lachlan acknowledged that when he was watching MMA, he was more involved with the fight when there was shit talking involved so he could see where Gordon Ryan was coming from, adding “It probably makes a lot sense from a personal level for Gordon Ryan to build up his profile and sell more instructionals and get more money from his super fights. That absolutely makes sense from an individual level.”
He also claimed that Gordon Ryan was calmer in real life saying “He’s actually much more mellow in person than he is online. He’s kind of quiet, doesn’t seem to stir people us nearly as much as he does online.”
Overall, it was an honest conversation with Lachlan Giles who kept it real as always. On the subject, it does seem that Gordon Ryan is probably the best in BJJ right now when it comes to self-promotion and getting results.
