It’s been a great year for Jed Hue who is still yet to lose in a no gi sub-only setting and today he further solidified his top-level status. The final match involved Hue against a game Ellis Younger who also put on a really good display, showing a tough guard with triangle attacks of his own. However, towards the end of the final, Hue managed to snag a leg lock. The leg lock looked almost like an Aoki lock where the ankle of Younger was bent sideways, it looked painful. This came after Hue has previously got a belly down heel hook on Rafael Colonhese.
Elsewhere, the event was a real success and featured a number of submissions such as anacondas, heel hooks, rear naked chokes and a number of other submissions were attempted throughout. It also featured superfights between Steven Hill and Sam Quinn, as well as Kate Bacik against Nadine Tavares which saw Bacik win via RNC.
Overall for a first event, it was very well run. The production quality was smooth with replays, slo-mo and various camera angles. It’s clear the team at Grapple Club knows what they’re doing and it looked like a professional set up throughout. The point system and judge’s decisions were also precise and made sure the action was pushed at all times. This will surely leave viewers wanting more in the future.
