UFC 254 saw Khabib Nurmagomedov comprehensively beat Justin Gaethje by a triangle choke which he set up from the mount position. This was in the second round and ended by Gaethje getting choked unconcious by the triangle. This came after the first round ended with Khabib attempting an armbar from the top as well. This came after typical Khabib takedowns and first class grappling.
After the match, an emotional Khabib cried and was clearly saddened by the loss of his father. When interviewed he announced his retirement leaving the UFC with a record of 29-0 and GOAT status.
This opens up the lightweight title wide open and there’s already talk of a comeback for Conor McGregor as his main rival Khabib has now retired.
