If 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, then it just did. This week saw a video uploaded which featured a gi match between a blue and purple belt in a car. When the timer started, there was a race to undo the car seatbelt and then try and tap your opponent.
Obviously, this was a bit of fun and looked quite awkward as conventional BJJ went out of the window. From a practical stand point, it seemed important to get rid of the seatbelt immediately and try to establish a top position. As guard was barely existent in the tight space of a car, the top position was dominant and allowed for choke submissions to be set up. Other than chokes, it seemed quite difficult to attack other submissions. It would also be interesting to see a no gi car match and see what the possible implications are without lapels and collars.
