The last few weeks have seen various high profile Armenian BJJ practitioners speak out on the current conflict involving Armenia vs Azerbaijan and Turkish forces. The likes of Edwin Najmi, Dillon Danis and Keith Krikorian have all shed light on the plight of the Armenian people during what could lead to a major war.
Sadly, this week it was confirmed that Garik Arevikyan was killed whilst deployed for his country. The blue belt was a regular competitor and was only 23 years old. Whilst all deaths are sad in war, this one hits home as he was like many young men who had a passion for BJJ.
Edwin Najmi used Instagram to call him an ‘Eternal hero’ and spoke highly of him.
2020 has been a tough year for everyone, but hopefully this can be solved peacefully as soon as possible.
