Speaking to FloGrappling, Andre Galvao was asked about the consideration of heel hooks in No Gi Worlds 2021, he responded by saying “I think it’s great, it’s amazing. I think it’s going to take this sport to the next level.”
He added “In my gym, when we train no gi I allow all my students to train heel hooks. The only reason why people get hurt with knee reaping and heel hooks is because they don’t train them and don’t know what’s happening.” With this said, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the likes of the Ruotolo twins attacking them as the submission is allowed for brown and black belt competitors only.
Interestingly, Galvao has snatched a couple of heel hook victories throughout his career but has never been submitted by them. Having said that, he’s barely been submitted anyway so it’s not too surprising.
