Gordon Ryan has recently been vocal with his criticisms of Joe Biden becoming president. Amongst other reasons, Ryan was not a fan of his tax plan. In a recent Instagram post he showed a picture from CNBC news that headlined “Biden’s tax plan could create a tax rate of as much as 62% for New Yorkers and Californians, studies show”. Ryan captioned this by saying “Anyone who stays is a retard.” Interestingly, Ryan only moved into his house just 10 months ago.
Regardless of your political views or opinions on Ryan, it seems he’s a man of his word. Today he showed an Instagram clip of various rooms of his house with bags and boxes filled with his belongings, showing that he was being true and it seems that moving out of New Jersey is now set in stone for the ADCC champion. In another post he stated “I paid 700k up front in Jan 2020 for 2020 taxes” which shows his earning power, alongside his tax level.
What does this mean for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? Who knows. There are several states that he could move to with people assuming Texas and Florida are high on his list. Whether his friends and training partners will join him is still unknown, but the result will definitely leave a big hole at Renzo Gracie’s New York gym. It would be interesting to see what his mentor John Danaher does as well. Danaher has lived in New York for years, but would he welcome the chance to move away and possibly open his own gym? Only time will tell.
