Gordon Ryan has been teasing fans with a move for a while now ever since Joe Biden was elected President of the USA. Today he revealed that he’s moving to Puerto Rico which is also the home of his friend and ADCC organizer Mo Jassim. Ryan revealed that he fell in love with the island when he was out there a few months ago training with Jassim.
One of the reasons Ryan planned to leave New York was based on the higher taxes, whereas Puerto Rico has famously low income taxes in comparison. He also confirmed that he would be creating an affiliate gym out there which is good news for BJJ enthusiasts who currently live out there. It is still yet to be confirmed whether his Renzo Gracie Academy teammates are joining him – however, he did confirm that his mentor John Danaher will stay put in New York City.
On Instagram he was asked about Danaher and replied by saying “You think Danaher would ever leave NY? lol”. For years, Danaher has spoken about his love of New York and regards it as a special place. With this said, it will certainly change the dynamic in the blue basement without his star student.
