Featuring Sean Patrick Flanery, Born A Champion is a movie about a war veteran who ventures into the world of MMA. It seems that MMA films are more common these days, as is BJJ being used in fight sequences in films such as John Wick and Warrior.
Born A Champion has a variety of wrestling, karate and BJJ. The trailer also shows a rolling scene where the protagonist sweeps his opponent into an armbar and later sinks in a rear naked choke. As a BJJ practitioner, it’s refreshing to see realistic fight scenes in movies especially when it comes to BJJ.
Away from the BJJ, the movie also looks quite good in general. It follows the typical hero story and how a man rises to overcome adversity whilst also promoting the lifestyle benefits of being a true martial artist. What makes this movie even more impressive is that Flanery himself is also a 3rd degree BJJ black belt in real life.
