Last night Gordon Ryan went on a tirade against fellow no-gi specialist Lachlan Giles.
Giles is a fan favorite amongst the grappling community, due to his smaller size and overcoming 3 larger opponents with inside heel hooks at ADCC 2019. Although this accomplishment is not quite the double gold that Gordon Ryan won. It still was very impressive to see a competitor from the lower weight classes win a medal in this way.
The drama began with Lachlan Giles claiming that anyone using PED’s should be stripped of their titles (including ADCC medals).
Gordon Ryan decided that this was a thinly veiled jab against him and hit back at the Australian claiming that there was no way he could bulk up this much muscle in his 30’s without lifting weights. He also mentioned that Giles jawline had increased in size.
Since the spat, Giles has released the above instagram image, claiming he is willing to wager at 1:100 that he is clean from PED’s. This means that he would pay Gordon Ryan $500000 if he lost the wager, whereas if he was clean, he would only be set to win $5000. In the past, Giles has spoken out about steroid use in BJJ.
As expected, Craig Jones once again played up to his own style of self deprecating humor claiming he “wished he had a gold medal to relinquish.” Jones known recently for his self stylized never winning anything image, found himself in the middle of the dispute having just moved to Puerto Rico with Gordon Ryan, yet learning all of his early BJJ from Lachlan Giles.
