During a Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds superfight match, JM Holland attempted to use rubber guard on his opponent. Whilst here, you couldn’t sweep or submit the opponent. Gordon Ryan used this opportunity to re-iterate his thoughts on the position. In the past, he has shown a video which supposedly shuts down the guard with the correct body positioning. His comment read “For anyone who watched my closed guard insturctional and heard me talk about how rubber guard is ineffective because it wedges you in a place that prevents the 2 things you need to be effective in closed guard (movement and angle), tonight’s CJJ was a perfect example of this.”
JM Holland was the man in question who is a 10th Planet Black Belt and runs his own gym, 10th Planet Jerusalem. He replied “@gordonlovesjiujitsu should sack up and fight with strikes or stfu big kiss from Cancun” This was a dig that Gordon Ryan has never done Combat Jiu Jitsu, nor has he done MMA fights like JM Holland has in the past.
