Best known as The Worlds Strongest Man or The Mountain from Game of Thrones, Hafthor Bjornsson is a real life Viking. At nearly 7 feet tall and over 200KG, it’s safe to say he’s every grappler’s worst nightmare. Today he uploaded a clip of him training martial arts. For instance, this showed him practicing strikes with the legendary Bas Rutten. It also showed a two minute clip against BJJ black belt Josh Palmer.
During this clip, it showed Palmer struggling from the bottom. In fairness, the weight disparity was huge and on recollection Palmer actually did really well to keep Bjornsson from passing for so long. In the end, his severe weight advantage paid off and Bjornsson passed the guard. From here he got a tap from top side control, whether it was due to cardio, compression or pressure is not known. What was impressive about Bjornsson is that he clearly knew a bit about grappling. He wasn’t just a massive guy and had more technique, speed and balance than you may first imagine.
It turns out that Bjornsson is having an MMA fight with long-time rival Eddie Hall next year. The two have been training hard for this fight and are both taking it seriously. However, after watching this clip – one thing is for certain, if you Bjornsson manages to pass your guard…you’re in trouble.
