Blue belts don’t have to worry at local competitions anymore. Israel Adesanya is now a purple belt after being promoted yesterday by Andre Galvao at Atos HQ in San Diego.
Adesanya said initially he didn’t think he deserved the purple belt, but trusted Galvao had made the right decision.
He mentioned “I trust his judgement and feel I have earned this. In my short time here I’ve felt my jiu jitsu level up. I love knocking people out, but it’s time to start tapping them out!”.
If his BJJ was to become as good as his striking, then it would be tough to see anyone defeating him in the near future as he hasn’t looked like losing a single fight since first appearing on the UFC stage in February 2018.
The accomplished kickboxer currently has a record of 20-0, only 9 wins away from Khabib Nurmagomedov’s record, but is yet to submit a single opponent. With all of his wins coming by TKO or decision.
