A man named Roberto De Lira from Deerfield Beach, Florida has been charged with one count of first degree murder along with one count of attempted murder. He is alleged to have used his training in BJJ to choke both of the victims, one of which died.
Nadir Verissimo 51, was in a relationship with the possessive De Lira before breaking up with him. Sources say that the Brazilian De Lira was not able to accept this and became very angry.
De Lira turned up at the house of Verissimo on Thanksgiving and strangled her to death.
The roomate of Verissimo managed to survive a chokehold by De Lira and alerted the police when she regained consciousness.
Not much is known about the martial arts background of De Lira, other than he had at least trained some BJJ and used this to kill Verissimo.
