It’s been one of the biggest BJJ beef’s ever and it continues to rumble on…that is of course the feud between Wallid Ismail and Renzo Gracie. The pair have hated each other for years with Ismail releasing call-out videos on the Renzo and the Gracie family becoming the stuff of internet legend.
This week Renzo Gracie was interviewed about Ismail and had this to say “I went to Brazil to fight Wallid on August 8th…he didn’t show up, he chicken’d out, I couldn’t believe it. It would have been the ugliest legend fighting the handsome one. He was recently in the corner for the Paulo Costa vs Adesanya in the UFC. So Adesanya says whose that gremlin in the corner!”
“He didn’t show up, people don’t realise. When the dog barks too much, it doesn’t bite. It doesn’t sound like him as he looks brave but he made an excuse. I’m 53 and part of the old school. Whenever I see him I will beat him, wherever we are and then after we can have an acai juice and enjoy, but for all the offenses he’s going to have to pay”
However, this is only Renzo’s take on the story. Ismail has been equally vocal over the years and also branded Renzo as “The biggest liar I have ever met” . Ismail, also known as The Gracie Killer is known as one of the most aggressive and fierce BJJ competitors ever who like Renzo has also fought in MMA.
