This week saw ADCC legend Robert Drysdale give his views on a proposed set of rule changes for competitions. This is, of course, just the opinion of Drysdale and was mostly for fun rather than anything serious. Nonetheless, looking at some of the alterations, it makes you wonder whether the rules are a little dated and in need of revising.
Drysdale called these ‘modified IBJJF rules’ that focused on submission over position. He would award 2-3 points for submission attempts, 1 point for submissions, 2 points for the mount or back, 1 point for a sweep or reversal, -1 point for guard pulling and that heel hooks would be legal in both gi and nogi.
Interestingly, the call for minus points for guard pulling has been used in certain competitions before and goes back to the roots of BJJ where takedowns had a bigger emphasis.
