On February 6th, the Heavyweight Grand Prix event is set to take place on the BJJ Stars promotion and it’s set to be a showstopper. Like previous BJJ Stars events, it’s an all-Brazilian affair and is based in the gi. It also has some of the biggest and best names when it comes to gi matches and is a Grand Prix format comprising of 8 athletes who are all in the heavyweight category.
The competitors are as follows:
- Luiz Panza
- Erich Munis
- Hulk Barbosa
- Gutemberg Perreira
- Yuri Simoes
- Felipe Pena
- Erberth Santos
- Nicholas Meregali
If you know anything about gi Jiu Jitsu then you will understand these guys are the very top, with a plethora of Worlds and other medals between them. The event also has a plot twist as it could see old rivals Felipe Pena face up with Erberth Santos. This has always made for a fiery match down the years which once resulted in Santos charging at Pena off the mat, resulting in a mass brawl.
The event also pays the winner 100,000 reais which roughly translates to $18,400 which means whoever wins is in for a nice pay day too. On a final note, it’s nice to see gi superfights and competitions get more recognition in super times. Since the death of ACB, there has been a void left so it’s good to see BJJ Stars putting on a show.
