Vitor ‘Shaolin’ Ribeiro is undeniably one of the best ever when it comes to the gi and today he released a short documentary discussing his introduction and career in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Here, Shaolin talked about his beginnings into the ground game, saying that he used to fight as a teen for pride back in Brazil. After this, he became a black belt in 3.5 years at the age of 17 and then went into MMA in Japan.
He also mentioned his discovery of the half-guard ‘Shaolin’ sweep which happened during a BJJ match in 1999, and also his fierce rivalry with Leo Viera. The documentary is only 6 minutes long and is short but sweet in that sense. For any BJJ-history buffs, it’s well worth a watch and gives a fascinating insight into the mind of a champion.
