In a recent video, footage shows a Marine Raider sparring a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt. This is in the gi and the black belt performs a lovely baseball choke, whilst using the Marine Raider’s gi lapel to establish a grip.
It should be noted that the Marine was a white belt, so of course, this outcome was to be expected in a sparring environment. With this being said, he did put up a decent defense. At the same time, the Marine was quite a bit larger than his training partner. This means that with strikes and out of the gi, things could have been different.
The Marine Raider in question is Nick Koumalatsos, who recently started training BJJ. The Marine Raiders are a group of US Marines that were created in World War II. Their goal is primarily to fight in amphibious warfare.
