UFC fighter Sean O’Malley was promoted to brown belt by his long time BJJ professor Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes. The promotion took place at Soul Fighters HQ in Arizona, which is both a BJJ & MMA gym run by the two time world champion Tanquinho.
Despite having a 13-1 record in MMA, as well as a 5-1 record within the UFC. O’Malley is still only ranked as #14 bantamweight within the organization. In terms of win to loss ratio, only Cory Sandhagen and Peter Yan have better results within the UFC with 7-1 records.
O’Malley is a proven well rounded fighter who has entered (and performed well) in grappling competitions. Most recently he took 2nd place at the grappling industries tournament against John Danaher brown belt Robert Degle.
