Last night saw WNO kick off which featured Craig Jones vs Tye Ruotolo as the main card. Like usual, this was shown on Flograppling. As always, it also featured an array of talent in the other superfights and last night was quite special in that it had a lot of submission victories. Without further delay, here are the results of the June 18th Whose Number One.
Craig Jones defeats Tye Ruotolo via unanimous decision
This match went the distance and both athletes were tired afterwards. However, Jones pushed the pace for the bulk of the 15 minutes which saw him claim a unanimous decision. Nonetheless, surviving Craig Jones for that amount of time is still incredibly impressive and shows why the Ruotolo brothers are hot property right now.
Mikey Musumeci defeats Junny Ocasio via unanimous decision
It was another winning performance for Musumeci as he continues to show his greatness in both gi and no gi. Here, he very nearly caught Ocasio in a mounted anaconda choke during the final seconds but Ocasio bravely held out.
Erin Harpe defeats Rafaela Guedes via decision
Going into this match, Erin Harpe was the underdog with Guedes coming off a string of victories. However, Harpe looked awesome and played an aggressive game in the top and bottom positions, scoring a late sit-up sweep and guillotine attempt late on.
Kade Ruotolo defeats Cole Franson via buggy choke
Kade Ruotolo once again showed the world how dangerous his buggy choke submissions are. This is a triangle choke performed from bottom side control. Did Kade purposely go into this position? Who knows…the result was a fantastic looking submission.
Andrew Wiltse defeats Gabriel Almeida via rear naked choke
It was another win for the Daisy Fresh hitman who managed to showcase his slick buzzsaw passing system and take the back of Almeida. Once on the back, he cleverly trapped the hand of Almeida and slipped in a one-armed rear naked, then finishing with both arms.
Mica Galvao defeats Oliver Taza via decision
Although this match didn’t end in submission, it was still very exciting. The highlight was an attempted anaconda choke from Taza, which Galvao escaped into a rolling triangle and then omoplata, where Taza replied with a heel hook entry. Sometimes decision victories can be boring, this was far from the case.
Haisam Rida defeats Miha Perhavec via armbar
This was apparently the second quickest submission in WNO history. Early on, Perhavec tried to display his Judo by attempting a hip toss on Rida, who then nearly took the back of Perhavec from the throw. A scramble resulted, with Rida jumping on a rolling Kimura which he finished by turning it into an armbar. This match lasted 36 seconds.
Kody Steele defeats Phillip Rowe via decision
It was a good night for Texan Kody Steele who beat UFC fighter Phillip Rowe by decision. This was a fun match which featured plenty of scrambles and Steele showed off his great wrestling skills with a big double leg takedown. At one point, Rowe nearly took Steele’s back, but the athleticism and pace of Steele proved too much.
Danielle Kelly defeats Jessica Crane via kneebar
Danielle Kelly once again showed her superior leg lock game as she inverted into a kneebar position from guard. After putting Crane onto the floor, Kelly then extended the leg until Crane had no other choice but to tap.
