This week saw Brazilian hot-shot Felipe Pena reignite a long standing feud with Gordon Ryan. Speaking to Brazilian news site Tatame, Pena mentioned Gordon Ryan during an interview. Originally, this was based on his upcoming match with Patrick Gaudio. However, as ever with the world of Gordon Ryan, things often end up being about him. This time was no different.
Speaking in Portuguese, Pena said “The Gordon Ryan thing is simple. He’s a liar. All the time, they post that they want to fight him, but the fight doesn’t happen for a simple reason. He doesn’t want the fight. He doesn’t respond to promoters, but on the internet he lies, saying that it’s us who don’t want to fight him. When it comes to signing a contract something happens, that he’s tired of Kaynan, that I change my mind all the time. Anyway, it’s all lies.”
As it happens, Felipe Pena is the last man to have beaten Gordon Ryan by submission, scoring a rear naked choke a few years back. He has also successfully countered his saddle entries. Gordon Ryan is currently retired from competition due to stomach issues. However, he is also working on a diet to map out his return to competiton. Until then, expect a social media back and forth. As the saying goes though, the mats don’t lie…and for now Gordon Ryan hasn’t been beaten in years.
