After Mikey Musumeci’s Road to ADCC victory against Geo Martinez, he spoke negatively about opponent Geo Martinez and even said “What a low class person. Horrible” during his post-match interview.
The rivalry began before the bout as Geo Martinez claimed he was “Not here to make friends” and would be focused on the superfight. This was in response to Musumeci’s typical, friendly persona that saw him praised Martinez and offered pizza after the match. Apparently, moments before the match Martinez also said “Why’s he speaking Portuguese, I’m more Brazilian than he is”, after Musumeci spoke in the Brazilian language.
Musumeci was visibly upset after the match and his body language said it all. After winning, he rushed over to Martinez’s coach Eddie Bravo and had his arms raised. The audio here was not captured, so whatever is said is between those two. After Musumeci said, “He was talking crap the whole freaking fight, so amateur. We’re setting an example for the next generation That’s ridiculous how he’s behaving” then adding “I hung out with him during a tournament. I thought we were friends. Then he changed his persona. I guess he cares more about followers than how he acts with people. Ridiculous.”
Martinez later went on to Instagram to respond with a 44 minute video rant. Here, Martinez offered Musumeci a fight under Eddie Bravo’s Combat Jiu Jitsu rules which allows open palm strikes on the floor. Here, the 10th Planet black belt said “I find it funny, he tries to act like he’s Brazilian but he’s not. He’s from New Jersey.” Some fans responded that Mikey Musumeci is autistic, which would explain some of his reactions and behavior.
