Last night saw one of FloGrappling’s biggest events of the year – the Road to ADCC which was an eventful night on and off the mats. As ever with this kind of event though, it was certainly exciting and proved a hit with the viewers. In short, you could say that the big names involved on the card delivered in terms of performances. Here’s the results:
Roberto Jimenez defeats Kade Ruotolo via rear naked choke
After 12 minutes, Jimenez successfully tapped out Kade Ruotolo. Earlier in the match, Ruotolo had put on an impressive display against Jimenez and proved he was up for it – scoring a powerful double leg takedown. At one point, he looked very close to scoring an armbar, but Jimenez used this to escape and pass. Eventually, he got to Ruotolo’s back, isolated the arm and sunk in a rear naked choke finish.
Ana Carolina Vieira defeats Elisabeth Clay via points
Although Elisabeth Clay has put on a dominant display lately, this night was not meant to be for here. Towards the end of the match Vieira passed her guard used a head and arm control grip. This secured the pass and more importantly scored as it was classed as a submission attempt. If the time didn’t stop, there is a real possibility Vieira would have won by using an arm triangle. The score was 5-0
Lucas Barbosa defeats William Tackett via points
There’s points victories then there’s points victories. In the case of Hulk Barbosa, this was a big win and proved that he’s still got it against the upcoming William Tackett. Here, the Brazilian out-wrestled Tackett for the bulk of the match and scored a number of takedowns with a dominant top game. The result ended 34-0 to Barbosa.
Mikey Musumeci defeats Geo Martinez via points
Although Geo scored a nice double leg on Musumeci earlier in the match, it was Musumeci who was more dominant throughout. At one point he had a nasty looking armbar on Martinez whose escape was just as impressive. This helped Musumeci win 6-0 on points. However, after the match he aired his disappointment with Martinez due to his ‘disrespectful’ earlier trash talk.
Nicky Ryan defeats Dante Leon via points
It was a mixed night for Nicky Ryan as he put on an impressive display against Dante Leon to earn the victory. Sadly for the younger Ryan brother, he picked up a knee injury during the match though. Ryan won 5-0 overall and showed off some fantastic wrestling skills. Double legging Dante Leon is not an easy task, but he did this anyway.
Kaynan Duarte defeats Matheus Diniz via heel hook
Kaynan Duarte won the main event and put his heel hook losses behind him with one of his own. Remember, Diniz is notoriously hard to submit and has never been tapped at ADCC which says it all. Here, Duarte back stepped into a saddle from top half guard. After controlling the legs, Duarte switched to a cloverleaf position and controlled the ankle of Diniz, resulting in a quick tap.
