A few years ago in 2018, Jason Statham did an interview with a now-defunct website called CombatBear where he was asked questions about his love for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It’s no secret that Statham is a lifelong martial artist and is known for his striking skills too.
In this interview, he confirmed his love for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and that he trained with fellow Londoner, Guy Ritchie. Apparently, Jason Statham had trained BJJ inconsistently for over 10 years and was promoted to purple belt under Renzo Gracie.
This makes sense, as around this time Guy Ritchie also trained at Renzo Gracie’s gym in New York City but since returned to England and got promoted to black belt under Roger Gracie. In 2019, Statham also returned to training in the gi and showed a photograph on his Instagram page, writing “Massive thank you and respect to my good pal James Moontasri for all the knowledge and kicking me into shape for Hobbs and Shaw.”
Since then, there has been no update on whether Statham trains BJJ, but his wife Rosie Huntington-Whiteley recently gave birth to their child so due to his hectic schedule, it’s fair to assume that he’s still a purple belt.
