Rener Gracie is a household name in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and is one of the bigger names in the illustrious Gracie family. He is also the brains behind the online ‘Gracie University‘ school which teaches self defense BJJ in an online, digital setting. However, what else is there to learn about Rener Gracie? Check out this article for more information on Rener Gracie and his lifestyle.

What rank is Rener Gracie?
Rener Gracie is a 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This means that he has spent a minimum of 14 years at the rank (it takes three years for the first three stripes on your BJJ black belt, then five for the next three).
In other words, it’s fair to say that Rener Gracie has put the time in where training is concerned…he is a Gracie after all. What’s more interesting is that Rener was born in 1983, meaning he is still relatively young in training terms and is well on track to reach the famous coral belt if he continues training.
Who is Rener Gracie’s dad?
These days, it’s hard to track who is who in the Gracie family. As for Rener, his father is Rorion Gracie who is a 9th degree red belt which is literally the highest rank in BJJ. Rorion has a law degree and was the co-founder of the UFC, so it seems as though his business acumen has been passed on to his son who is also very entrepreneurial.
Interestingly, Rener has also featured on the UFC, although not as a fighter. He has coached on the Ultimate Fighter series, as well as cornering the likes of Brian Ortega who trains at his gym, the Gracie Academy in Torrance.
What belt is Eve Gracie?
Eve Gracie is the wife of Rener Gracie and often trains with him. She was originally named Eve Torres and starred in the WWE before switching to BJJ with her husband Rener. She is currently ranked purple belt and has had the rank for several years. She was promoted to purple belt back in 2016 with Rorion in attendance.
Does Rener Gracie drink alcohol?
Rener Gracie is not known to drink alcohol, although this is not fully confirmed. Basically, his family invented The Gracie Diet, which is a healthy diet to live by and promotes an active lifestyle. As a result, he didn’t serve alcohol at his wedding to honor the family tradition.
So, if Rener Gracie follows his family diet then it’s fair to say then he wouldn’t drink alcohol. Also, looking at his physique, it looks as if Rener Gracie doesn’t drink alcohol, at least not often.
Did Rener Gracie get a deal on Shark Tank?
Back in 2019, Rener Gracie took his brand QuickFlip on the TV show Shark Tank. This was a hoodie that could quickly transform into a drawstring back, and it was also waterproof. Watching the episode, it’s clear that Rener was a great salesman and had all the facts and figures to back his talk up.
He walked away with a $500,000 deal with Lori Greiner. Had things gone to plan over the next few years in terms of distribution and sales projections, this deal would have seen Rener make millions from the brand due to its high potential and growth.
Where does Rener Gracie train?
Rener Gracie trains out of his Gracie Jiu Jitsu gym in Torrance, California. He teaches there with his brother, Ryron and often films his ‘Gracie Breakdown’ videos from there. You may recognize the gym from its green mats that are easily recognizable.
Over the years, he has taught the likes of Brian Ortega from this gym, as well as the likes of Vince Vaughn and countless other celebrities. This gym mostly focuses on the fundamentals that were taught by Helio Gracie and has a large self defense element in the training.
How much does Gracie Combatives cost?
Rener Gracie also owns Gracie Combatives, which is an online video platform. This costs $20 per month and has access to all of the courses. In terms of pricing, this is quite fair as other platforms are known to charge a bit more. Really though, it depends on what you’re after as a viewer. Having said this, if you’re after self defense Jiu Jitsu then this is the only real streaming website that offers courses and videos, whereas most of the other monthly subscription sites are designed for sports and competition Jiu Jitsu.
Is Gracie Combatives any good?
The Gracie Combatives program is mostly considered as a decent video course for those that want to learn BJJ in a self defense setting. In other words, it teaches stuff like mount escapes, how to minimize punches from side control, how to armbar from guard, and a bunch of other fundamentally sound BJJ techniques.
As mentioned above, if you want to learn this sort of stuff then there isn’t that much around – or at least not all in one place. Because of this, Gracie Combatives is a good choice to consider if you’re after something that you can use to defend yourself with.
If you’d like to learn more about the Gracie Combatives system, then check out this DVD that features a very young Rener, Ryron, and Helio Gracie.
