Back in January 2021, Megadeth frontman was promoted to the rank of purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This year, he has just been promoted to brown belt. For those wondering, the brown belt is a very senior belt in BJJ and is the prequel belt to the much coveted black belt.
In other words, it’s fair to say that Mustaine is well-versed in BJJ and now has plenty of experience training. It’s not just BJJ that Mustaine has trained in either. Over the years, he has received a black belt in both Karate and Taekwondo. Basically, it’s quite a martial artist.
What’s even more impressive is that Mustaine earned his brown belt aged 61 years old. Generally, BJJ is considered a young man’s game by most people due to the stresses it puts on your body. What’s even more insane is that in 2019, Mustaine was diagnosed with throat cancer. Since his recovery, it seems that he’s been devoted to BJJ.
