In a recent podcast appearance, legendary BJJ coach John Danaher appeared on the Lex Fridman podcast. This podcast was over four hours in length and here Danaher discussed an array of subjects, from love to grappling, and animals.
In the first 30 minutes of the podcast, Lex asked Danaher about the reasons for the split between the original Danaher Death Squad (also known as DDS). This happened during the pandemic following the squad’s move to Puerto Rico before things eventually broke down.
Here, Danaher alluded that Gordon and Nicky Ryan had fallen out with each other, to the point where training in the same room was difficult. He also added that the small island of Puerto Rico only amplified these issues.
Continuing, Danaher claimed that he was originally meant to get the B-Team’s current gym location upon moving to Texas, and was ‘homeless’ as a result. He also mentioned that some of the members quit due to not enjoying hard training.
Following on from his comments, Craig Jones actually replied to the video and wrote, “We stole his gym – false. We didn’t like hard training – false. We broke up because of personal issues – 100% the entire story.” Previously, former members have remained tight-lipped on the issue and in a recent podcast of his own, Jones alluded that he didn’t hold grudges and seemed quite chilled about the scenario.
