BJJ ace Gordon Ryan was banned from his personal Instagram account today. He responded to this news simply by writing “Hahaha RIP me” with a screenshot of the ban. As of right now, he has 30 days to respond to the ban which could see the suspension uplifted if his appeal was successful. At the same time, that’s not to say that it will be successful anyway.
Over the years, Gordon Ryan has often flirted with danger when it comes to social media platforms. This is because he’s not afraid to speak his mind and is often openly critical of certain politics or laws that he disagrees with. Of course, this can lead to an account ban if it is deemed offensive or factually incorrect by the likes of Instagram and other tech giants. In fact, this isn’t the first time he’s faced an account ban either.
This ban came at a bad time for Gordon, who recently celebrated reaching 600,000 followers on the platform. Despite his witty response, this ban may actually bite him in the pocket as it could potentially affect his image and ability to promote himself. In the meantime, he still has a backup account that has nearly 200,000 followers. Whilst these are healthy numbers, it’s still not even one-third of his previous account’s popularity.
Ironically, the owner of Instagram (Mark Zuckerberg) recently started training BJJ and MMA, so it would be interesting to see his take on the issue. Perhaps this is one fight that Gordon Ryan will actually lose.
