This week saw US boxer Ryan Garcia training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Rener Gracie. Although Garcia is a highly accomplished boxer, like every other BJJ beginner he was seen wearing a white belt alongside his gi. This prompted Rener to ask his Instagram fans, “Day 1 – how long you think it takes King Ryan to reach black belt?”
Despite Ryan Garcia donning the gi, you would realistically expected him to remain in boxing – as the money there is far superior compared to the money in MMA or competitive BJJ. To date, Garcia brags nearly 10 million fans on Instagram which showcases his popularity.
Still in his early 20s, Garcia has an impressive professional boxing record of 23-0, with 19 of those victories coming from KOs. Nonetheless, it’s still cool to see a prized athlete trying his hand at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – even if it is done as a hobby.
