With over 10 years in the game, this is one of the more established gyms in Boston. It also teaches MMA, Muay Thai and other martial arts. Despite being an MMA gym, the BJJ here is top quality and it has an inclusive environment for all levels and people of all walks of life.

This is a top Gracie Barra gym and has classes in the morning and evening times. As you’d expect with most GB gyms, it has certain standards such as constantly clean mats and a professional atmosphere, as well as its gi policy – which is a positive or negative depending on your perspective. The training is quality though.

South Boston BJJ

With classes beginning as early as 7AM, this gym also caters to the early birds of the BJJ scene. It also has one of the most aesthetically pleasing looks around, with all all-white mats reminiscent of AOJ. As you’d expect, this is situated in the south of Boston.

Kimura BJJ is a BJJ gym located in Watertown and is known for offering tough but honest rounds. Arguably, the Kimura competition team is the best in the area so if you’re serious about training then this may be the gym for you.

In my opinion, Mau Mau is probably the best gym in the area for kids and has a large program with plenty of competitors. So, if you have a kid then it may be the best place to send them. As for adults, the standards are also really high whilst maintaining a friendly culture.

Located in the heart of Boston, this gym is run by Hugo Marques, a multiple time world champion. As you’d expect, the level of teaching here is high and put simply, if you want to get better at BJJ then this is the place for you. Overall, the level in the room is high when it comes to both gi and no-gi.

This is one of the oldest gyms in the area and as a result, it has loads of black belts and experienced practitioners, whilst also catering to newcomers as well. You may have heard of the Brazilian Top Team group and this is their Boston branch.
