KSW to host gi fight between BJJ & Judo black belts

The Polish MMA promotion, KSW, has recently announced a truly unprecedented matchup that is sure to captivate fans of the sport. At their upcoming event, XTB KSW Epic, scheduled for February 24th, 2024, two highly skilled martial artists will face off in an MMA bout with a unique twist – they will be wearing their traditional martial arts uniforms, known as the gi. Here, BJJ black belt Kacprzak will face black belt Judoka Brysz.

This unconventional fight pits a practitioner of Judo, a martial art renowned for its throwing and grappling techniques, against a specialist in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art that emphasizes ground fighting and submission holds. This matchup not only promises an exciting display of martial arts skill but also serves as a homage to the early days of MMA, where contests between different martial arts styles were common.

While fights involving athletes wearing a gi have been a rarity in recent years, KSW’s decision to feature this bout aligns with their mission to celebrate their 20th anniversary by revisiting the roots of the sport. This unorthodox matchup is sure to generate buzz and curiosity among MMA fans, and it will be intriguing to witness how the gi affects the strategies and techniques employed by the fighters. It’s a bold move by KSW to bring back a nod to the early origins of professional MMA and create a memorable event for their fans.
