On January 21st, the Oak Ridge High School in Orlando served as the stage for the latest US AJP competition, where competitors of all ages and belts showcased their skills on the mats. Among the victors, one black belt stood out in dramatic fashion, conquering not one, not two, but three gold medals throughout the day – Igor Feliz of Future School of Jiu Jitsu USA.
Feliz’s golden journey began in the 85kg Gi division, where he faced countryman Matheus Morais of Precision Jiu-Jitsu. In a display of technical mastery, Feliz secured victory via submission, setting the tone for his dominant performance.
Undeterred by the physical demands of his first win, Feliz shed his gi and returned to the competition floor with his sights set on the No-Gi 85kg title. Once again, Matheus Morais awaited him in the final. This time, Feliz’s dominance was even more pronounced, controlling the match from start to finish and securing a decisive 10-0 victory, his second gold medal of the day.
Still not satisfied, Feliz set his sights on the ultimate challenge – the Open Heavyweight division. Standing in his way was Jefferson Nascimento of Renzo Gracie Orlando, a formidable opponent who pushed Feliz to his limits in a grueling five-minute battle. In the end, it was Feliz’s relentless pressure and opportunistic scoring that earned him a hard-fought 4-2 victory, completing his unprecedented triple gold achievement.
Feliz’s performance at the Oak Ridge Open was a testament to his dedication, skill, and mental fortitude. He navigated a demanding schedule, faced talented opponents in multiple weight classes, and emerged victorious in each encounter. His achievement serves as an inspiration to jiu-jitsu athletes of all levels, demonstrating the power of perseverance and strategic execution in the face of adversity.
