Dillon Danis Ordered to Find New Attorney in Ongoing Lawsuit

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Dillon Danis has been ordered to obtain new legal representation after a federal judge approved his attorney’s request to withdraw from the case.

The motion to withdraw, filed by attorney Mark Berman, cited several reasons, including unpaid legal fees and an alleged lack of communication from Danis.

According to court filings, this was not the first time payment issues had arisen. Berman stated that a previous motion to withdraw had been resolved after outstanding invoices were paid, allowing him to continue representing Danis. However, he alleged that Danis later failed to make timely payments on monthly invoices and did not maintain the agreed retainer balance.

The filing also claims Danis became increasingly unresponsive to attempts at communication. Berman stated that multiple messages sent throughout February and March went unanswered, and that he received no response after warning that he intended to seek permission to withdraw unless payment arrangements were made.

In the motion, Berman wrote that he would have preferred to continue representing Danis but argued that the combination of unpaid fees and a lack of communication made it impossible to do so effectively.

Judge Michael Hammer granted the request on June 9 and ordered Danis to retain new legal counsel within 30 days. If he fails to do so, he may be required to represent himself in future proceedings.

As of the latest available court records, no new attorney has formally appeared on Danis’ behalf.

Background of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit was filed in September 2023 by model Nina Agdal, who alleges that Danis made hundreds of social media posts targeting her following the announcement of his boxing match with Logan Paul.

The complaint alleges the posts caused emotional distress and reputational harm. It also claims that at least one post involved the unauthorized sharing of an intimate image, which Agdal alleges violates both federal and state law.

The lawsuit seeks damages, including statutory damages under federal law related to the alleged distribution of intimate images.

The case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Danis have not been adjudicated in court.
