Global Movie Star Tom Hardy Awarded BJJ Blue Belt

Earlier this week, actor Tom Hardy was finally awarded his blue belt in BJJ. Hardy, who has featured in hit films such as Inception, Black Hawk Down & The Revenant is no stranger to jiu jitsu.

The earliest records of him training are from 2011, so it has been a long 9 years to reach blue belt. Of course he hasn’t trained consistently during this period, otherwise he would be nearing black belt. He received his second stripe at white belt some time in 2019, so it certainly isn’t another “celebrity” promotion. It is refreshing to see a celebrity who actually trains with ordinary people and isn’t afraid to spar.

Hardy trains under ReOrg BJJ which is a foundation in association with the Royal Marines Charity. For those who aren’t familiar with the Royal Marines Charity, it is an organization in the UK which helps marines once they leave the armed forces.

The ReOrg BJJ organization in particular focuses on improving both the mental and physical health of those who are either still in or have left the armed forces. Hardy is pictured above wearing the Reorg gi which can be bought from their website and helps a great cause.

For those wondering, Hardy first learned about BJJ whilst training for his role in the MMA movie, Warrior. In this film he played a cage fighter and a Kimura submission is used in one of his fights.
