This week saw WWE superstar Matt Riddle earn his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Daniel Gracie Orange County. Speaking on the promotion, Riddle wrote “Finally got my bjj black belt and I couldn’t be happier, thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me along the way 🤙” on his Instagram account.
As you’d expect, WWE and professional wrestling has its fair share of BJJ enthusiasts as there’s a lot of crossover between the two. However, there are still very few pro wrestlers who have been awarded the honor of black belt.
Whilst Riddle is best known for his WWE career, he also famously fought in MMA and had a successful career that also saw him fight in the UFC. Although Riddle retired with an 8-3 record, he had two wins infamously chalked off by USADA for testing positive for cannabis at the time.
With this in mind, Riddle has definitely earned his black belt and has been training BJJ and grappling for several decades.
