Buchecha vs Werdum BJJ match cancelled

This match may have been the bout of the year. Here the legendary Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida was set to face veteran grappler Fabricio Werdum. Both competitors have won gold at ADCC twice which is considered to be the greatest prize in submission grappling.
Recently Buchecha has also signed to MMA promotion One. Elsewhere Werdum is currently fighting in UFC after winning the heavyweight title in 2015.
In short, it would have been a match of epic proportions.

The bout was scheduled to happen on September 6th under Brazilian promotion BJJBet. This would have been a 10 minute Nogi match and was the headline of the pay per view event.
However, it was recently revealed that Buchecha had to drop out after injuring his knee so he is not able to compete. Grappling fans worldwide would have been upset by this news as 2020 has been void of competition due to Coronavirus.

However, there is hope that someone else steps in to fight Werdum as there is still one month until the event. With this in mind there is still plenty of time for a willing competitor to step forward but facing Werdum is far from an easy challenge. There is also more positive news as the card is already very stacked. The likes of Pena Vs Erberth Santos, Lo Vs Meragali and Cyborg announced are all elite athletes. Not only this but it brings hope that more events are scheduled and the competition calendar can resume shortly.
