BJJ Athletes – Taylor Pearman Biography Interview

Taylor Pearman is a British BJJ athlete from Colchester who is a black belt and has been training since age 14. Pearman first got into BJJ after playing UFC games on his Xbox. Here, he took an interest in the submission element of the game. After this he took his first MMA class at his local gym and did a Nogi lesson, in his own words he was ‘hooked’ since that moment.

Just 9 years after he started training, Pearman achieved his black belt and represents the ZR team. His main teacher is Alain Pozzo who has been his main coach since he began.
Pearman’s favourite position is the X guard and uses this to sweep his opponents. When on top, Pearman’s favourite passing methods are usually pressure passing and the knee slice position from top half guard. His main influence is Marcelo Garcia, which can be shown with his preference of the X guard.

To date his biggest achievement has been winning the Nogi Worlds in 2017. At purple belt level, Pearman went up against some of the worlds best and came out victorious. Since then, Pearman usually competes at middleweight level. He can often be found at various superfight events such as Polaris as well as regularly winning golds at various Gi and Nogi competitions.
In his own words, Tainan Dalpra was his hardest opponent. This is not surprising as Dalpra has also won various golds at worlds and is successful in his own right.

Pearman’s future goals are to own his own BJJ gym and win the biggest medals in BJJ. This includes ambitions of gold at black belt worlds and ADCC. With this in mind it’s fair to say he has ambition, but after his career so far it is definitely justified.

Pearman would like to add thanks to his sponsers, Tatami, Tenaci Tape and Body Fuel.
