IBJJF announces its first US competitions since Covid19 – 2020 Austin and Oklahoma Open

For those looking forward to competing again – there’s finally some good news. This weeks the IBJJF has started accepting competitors for two of its upcoming events. The events are the 2020 Austin Open and the 2020 Oklahoma City Open.

The Austin Open takes place on the 19th of September and has both Gi and Nogi categories. This takes place at the Round Rock Sports Center in Austin, Texas with prices starting at $108.
The Oklahoma City Open takes place at The HIVE Sports Complex in Edmond, Oklahoma on the 26th of September. It is also $108 to enter but is exclusively a Gi only event.

The IBJJF site also mentions health and condition concerns regarding Covid19. For instance, there are no spectators allowed and each competitor can have one coach only. Not only this but everyone involved must wear face masks at all times unless competing. It also says sanitation of surfaces will take place throughout the day.

This is good news for those after some competition experience. However be warned, as Rafael Lovato Jr has already signed up for the Oklahoma City event in the black belt masters one category. So if you are looking for a tough match in that bracket then you can find one!
