Keenan Cornelius signs up to the 2020 Pan Ams as Super Heavyweight

Earlier this year Keenan Cornelius successfully won gold at the 2020 Euro’s in the heavyweight category. However, he just registered as Super Heavyweight for the 2020 Pan Ams. Typically his competition weight is around 88-94KG as he usually competes around the Medium Heavy-to-Heavyweight category. However, he is now bigger than ever in the Super Heavyweight division for this year’s Pans.

Naturally tall, gone are the days when Cornelius was a lanky purple belt competing in the Middleweight division. It’s not impossible that his new weight class comes after months of lockdown quarantine which has been strictly enforced in his region of San Diego. Because of this, you could assume that his BJJ training may have dipped a little and has been replaced with weights instead.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how he does at this new weight and whether his lapel tricks will still hold up against bigger opponents.
