The gyms below are some of the best in Birmingham, England. They are not ranked in any order such as best gym to worst gym, as some people will be looking for different things such as a friendly environment, a competitive gym or simply somewhere to just drop-in as a one-off.

Gracie Barra Birmingham (Central Birmingham)

This is the most central gym in Birmingham. It is still somewhat on the outskirts of the city centre and is roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk from Birmingham New Street Station. The gym is run and owned by BJJ legend Braulio Estima so you are guaranteed a warm welcome. It is friendly for both beginners and competitors, although has stricter rules for drop-ins since it is a GB school. (You will be required to wear their GB branded gi).

Team Renegade BJJ (Kings Heath Area)

Renegade gym is based in Kings Heath which is a 15 minute drive or bus ride away from the city centre. This is primarily an MMA gym which very prestigious fighters from Cage Warriors, UFC & Bellator. With this being said, their BJJ classes are for all levels and not just for MMA. If you want something more serious they will have particular MMA schedules with the top fighters, but for the average hobbyist their BJJ classes are very good and welcoming.

10th Planet Birmingham (Kings Norton Area)

This is the only 10th planet gym in the West Midlands region, so if you want to learn purely no gi BJJ or you are looking for a 10th planet drop in, this is your only option. The gym is very well run, friendly and also offers a selection of various classes for casuals to competitors. It is located fairly near to Kings Norton train station and will be around a 15 minute walk from here.

Run by Coach Kamby, the Fearless gym is also another MMA academy in Birmingham. The reason for including this non-BJJ gym on the list is that it has the best wrestling in the area. A lot of competitors will cross-train their stand up at this gym due to it’s fantastic wrestling reputation. If you are new to the city, the best way to get to the gym is to take the metro to St Pauls in the jewellery quarter – the gym is only a 5 minute walk from here.
